The classic lime margarita is the one everyone reaches for first — and when it's frozen, smooth, and perfectly balanced between sweet and tart, it's pure magic. Here's the house ratio we love, scaled for a frozen drink machine so you can serve it all party long without lifting a blender.
What you'll need
This makes roughly one standard machine bowl. Always check your machine's fill line and adjust proportionally.
- Frozen margarita mix — your favorite quality lime mix (it carries the flavor and the right sugar level for a clean freeze)
- Fresh lime juice — a generous splash to brighten everything up
- Water — per your mix instructions
- Tequila — a silver/blanco is our go-to (optional — leave it out for a virgin batch that's just as delicious)
- Garnish — coarse salt for the rim and fresh lime wheels
The method
1. Build your base
Combine the mix and water to the machine's fill line, then add fresh lime juice to taste. Stir well before the machine starts so everything blends evenly.
2. Add your liquor (the golden ratio)
A frozen drink needs the right amount of alcohol to freeze properly — too much and it won't slush up. A good starting point is roughly a 4-to-1 ratio of mix to tequila. If you're keeping it virgin, simply top up with a little extra water or mix.
Pro tip: Start the machine 45–60 minutes before guests arrive. That first perfectly frozen pour should be ready the moment the party starts.
3. Rim, pour, and garnish
Run a lime wedge around the glass rim and dip in coarse salt. Pull a generous pour from the machine, perch a lime wheel on the edge, and serve. Cheers.
Make it effortless
The hardest part of a frozen margarita bar is the equipment — that's where we come in. The Tipsy Lime delivers a commercial dual-bowl machine, sets it up, and picks it up, so all you do is add your mix and pour. You bring the people; we bring the chill.
Please enjoy responsibly. Must be 21+ to consume alcohol. Liquor is not provided with our rentals.
